A lot of cool things happened this week.
Unfortunately, those did not come without some time in the valley, while maybe a few buzzards circled overhead.
As I reflect on the week, from last Friday to this Friday, I would not trade any of the tears, hurt or fear for the peace and insight I felt today.
It’s one of those rare occasions when a hidden puzzle comes together…and you get to see the last piece finally reveal something that didn’t make sense before.
The Lord was so kind to let me see more than one complete puzzle this week.
Before I go into detail of a post I made earlier from @thegladgame, I need to briefly mention Mini.
Mini is a bird owned by my oldest daughter’s boyfriend. Unfortunately, I did not hide how weird I thought all the bird gear and bird-world-stuff was. This bird can be carried around almost like a small child. Maybe better than some children.
I don’t like birds. A whole pack of street-gang-birds came after me and Christy Johnson in 1994, while we tried to eat Krystal’s in a local park, and I’ve never really been the same. 🦅
Over the last several months, I’ve come to realize this bird is very important to him, similar to how I would run through a burning building for my dogs.
My 84-year-old grandmother…she asks us about the bird! “How’s Mini?” I feel like saying, “Well, she will graduate Pre-K soon, so we will have a small party and birdseed cake.” 🐤🍰😂
My younger daughter buys toys for Mini and now wants a bird of her own (no). Even my sister liked the bird, although you can’t really tell in these photos. #heysissy
My point is…this bird is of great value to its owner, no matter what I think, or what anyone says.
Now imagine, the God of the universe, who intricately designed every detail, every feather, the perfect design for flight, on every species of bird…how much He cares for you is beyond comparison to anything, or anyone, we love here on this earth.
Your value is important to God, no matter what anyone else tells you.
He is not going to change His mind.
The cool story:
A friend, whose son graduated this week, was telling me about the keynote speaker, Liz Huntley, from our high school’s graduation.
She is the author of a book, More Than A Bird.
As she was describing the story behind Liz Huntley’s speech, I immediately reached into my purse and pulled out the necklace I had purchased over a year ago.
For some reason, I stuck it in my purse for this past weekend’s trip, even though the metal chain causes my neck to itch. 😂
It has been on my dresser or in a drawer all this time, but now I had it, at work, while she was telling me the meaning of More Than A Bird.
I just think it’s cool when things like that happen. I mean, out of all the speakers to be at graduation, and then for this friend to stop and tell me about it (when we haven’t talked in forever), and then I could show the necklace to her…and it wasn’t on my dresser, at my house. I just picked it up last Friday as we rushed out the door, with only the thought that I might need it.
Today, we had a faculty lunch at work and our principal also referenced this author’s speech from graduation. Two people in two days, with the same message, that matches a forgotten necklace in the side pocket of my purse.
I will be ordering Liz Huntley’s book, but in the meantime, someone (maybe me, maybe you) needs to be reminded of this:
Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
Are you not worth much more than they? – Matthew 6:26
Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows. – Luke 12:7
Whitney Houston and Lauryn Hill are the ones I’ve always heard singing this song, and that’s what I was searching for on youtube…but first, I found this:
