The skies were dark.
It was a great afternoon for a Sunday nap.
Instead, some precious teenage girls were dropped off at my house for a small group we called Chosen Girls (John 15:16).
We studied how His Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.
Jesus is the Light of the world – and we should let our light shine before men, so that others may see it, and want to know the Father in heaven.
After we finished our lesson, we decorated paper lanterns that had a small, battery-powered light inside.
I just love a craft theme!
Then, those dark skies opened up and the storm that followed caused our power to go out.
Those lanterns filled my kitchen with a warm glow.
One of the girls quickly said something about the lanterns were like the light in the dark, just like Jesus was in our lesson.
I almost cried.
In fact, I’ll cry now just thinking about it. Despite all of my failures and shortcomings over the years, God would still breathe life into my home and allow seeds to be sown, and I know that His word…will not return void.
So will the words that come out of my mouth not come back empty-handed.
They’ll do the work I sent them to do, they’ll complete the assignment I gave them.
I cling to that promise – because the darkness cannot overcome the Light.
