Sometimes, you hear a song from the past and you think, “Well, hello there, catchy tune that I’m about to play on repeat a dozen times.”
As I attempted to clean house with the volume likely jarring the elderly neighbors, I was caught up in the lyrics and how it so accurately describes me at this moment of my timeline.
I AM Unwritten.
As I danced, I began to smile.
I began to remember the journey that began in 2016, 2018, and 2020.
I didn’t know it at the time, but it began to accelerate through 2021, 2022 and reached a pivotal moment in November 2023.
During the summer of 2024, a choice had to be made.
I could get busy living or stay on the downward slope to get busy dying.
I remember thinking, “I want to live.”
And friends, that sentiment had not crossed my mind in over a decade.
There is the book that I’ve always dreamed of writing.
There are close to one hundred posts here that were ideas quickly saved as a draft, but never completed or published.
There is an unknown future of hope and possibilities, IF I can simply let go of what has been…and look forward to what has yet to be penned.

I am unwritten
Can’t read my mind
I’m undefined
I’m just beginning
The pen’s in my hand
Ending unplannedStaring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not findReaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitionsFeel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide openToday is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Wait! The song isn’t over just yet.
So, before truly feeling the rain on your skin and embracing the blank pages before you, we have to remember Who ultimately holds the paper as we scribble our dreams.

Who opens the skies for the rain to fall?
Who directs the sun to rise in the morning?
Who tells the oceans how far they can go?
Who spoke and put the starry host into place?
In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. Proverbs 16:9
To humans belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue.
All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord.
Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. Proverbs 16:1-3
As humans, we have a rebellious nature.
“You can’t tell me what to do.”
“I’m in control of my life.”
Been there. Done that.
It doesn’t work that way.
It’s not limitations on us just for the sake of being controlled, it’s a God who wants to shape our path out of unfathomable love.
He has good plans.
You are free to move forward with yours, but I am certain the One who can just breathe, and the stars appear in the heavens, has the best plans to write my story with eternal penmanship.
I don’t want to be a wrinkled, bargain paperback.
I want the nice hard cover with the dust jacket that has longevity. It will rest confidently on the shelf for others to discover the wonders and miracles that God worked out in my life.
Here’s to being unwritten. 🥂
