The Breakup Song

When I first saw this song title, I wondered what in the world one my favorite artists was singing about.

About two lines in, then it all made sense.

I immediately made a playlist titled, No Fear (throwback to anyone who remembers that), and this was the first song added.

Even better, I found the music video, which will obviously be a link in the blog playlist below.

Today’s graphics are courtesy of that video because I just loved them.

I had a rotary phone. It wasn’t powder blue. Ours was black and probably weighed fifty pounds. Those things were made out of metal?

So, if you’ve read anything from me, then you probably know I have a history of being a fearful person.

Cue the Eagles’ “Wasted Time.”

Or, as I learned about five minutes ago…cue the song “Afraid” by Tenth Avenue North. They have a lyric:

“Worry is only wasted time.”

I can’t say “no more fear,” completely, but I can definitely tell a difference in how I respond to people who would have normally shoved me into an emotional, and even spiritual, corner.

This post was round one (okay, more like round 22, TKO):

Why a spiritual corner? Because to be afraid of man is to doubt God.

God created man.

Can man do anything outside of what is sifted through the hands of God…even the awful stuff?

Understanding God’s Word and who He is… it’s honestly like waking up out of The Matrix.

I’m not trying to dumb down our Creator, but rather phrase it in a way that might get the attention of a certain audience.

Honestly? I was just trying not to use the King Theoden reference from Lord of the Rings. 😂

It’s worth all four minutes if you don’t know the scene:

I will draw you, Saruman, as poison is drawn from a wound.

You realize the world around you, that you think controls you or dictates your life, doesn’t actually have any power – except the power that you give it.

Light or Dark.

Hot or Cold.

Truth or Lie.

Courage or Fear.

Two choices.

Like two faucets. Which one is turned on the fill your life, to determine your steps, to dictate your thoughts?

You’re listening to something…someone.

The cord that connects the power to your soul has a source. What’s at the other end?

If it’s anything like the sniveling evil shown from Saruman, then you aren’t seeing clearly. You are not yourself.

You’re poisoned.

Don’t you know that’s how our enemy can operate? J.R.R. Tolkien (and C.S. Lewis) wrote the way they did because they knew of good and evil.

They knew of God…and a serpent. With venom.

It’s not complicated. We make it hard.

Just pick a side.

Pick a power source.

As for me, I’m disconnecting fear.

It might take multiple removal procedures, but I’ve made up my mind.

Fear, you don’t own me.

I’ve gone through the motions

I’ve been back and forth

I know that you’re thinking you’ve heard this before

I don’t know how to say it

So I’m just gonna say it, yeah

Fear, you don’t own me

There ain’t no room in this story

And I ain’t got time for you

Telling me what I’m not

Like you know me, well guess what?

I know who I am

I know I’m strong

And I am free

Got my own identity

So fear, you will never be welcome here

Take a minute, let it settle in

You probably never saw it coming

Something’s gotta give so I give up you, oh

There’s no room for you here

Yeah, I’ve had enough

The no vacancy sign on my heart is lit up

In case you didn’t hear it

Here it is again

Oh, fear, you don’t own me

There ain’t no room in this story

And I ain’t got time for you

Telling me what I’m not

Like you know me, well guess what?

I know who I am

I know I’m strong

And I am free

Got my own identity

So fear, you will never be welcome here

Is there anybody out there just like me?

(Anybody out there?)

Anybody needing fear to leave?

If you don’t know how to say it

Sing along with me.
