Lead Me

If we were at a skating rink, then this might be a couples’ skate moment.

I never really learned to roller skate and always dreaded birthday parties at the rink, so I ended up playing a lot of video games.

By the end of the night though, I could usually make it around once…if I was holding on to someone who was strong enough to lead me.

Let’s pretend it’s church night at the roller rink and “Heaven is a Place on Earth” by Belinda Carlisle didn’t make the song list.

(A committee had already met on how the song was biblically misleading.)

The “Brickhouse” record was locked securely in a drawer.

So, what are our options? There are actually more Christian love songs available than you might realize, and I didn’t even include “I Will Be Here,” by Steven Curtis Chapman.

The playlist will be listed below for your next date night. โค๏ธ

What first led me to search for these songs began around February 12th when I made a video slideshow for my husband with photos from our sixteen years together.

On Valentine’s Day, I heard a local pastor give a helpful love list to husbands and wives. One of the best moments was when he encouraged husbands to pray with their wives because “being spiritual is sexy.”

I brotherly love that guy! ๐Ÿ˜‚ He speaks the truth. What a fun service of laughter, slightly awkward moments and godly instruction for everyone attempting to keep their balance in the couples’ skate of life.

I’m saving most of that Valentine message for another post, if I finally work up the nerve to publish it. โค๏ธ

For now, this is a simplified version of a point he made about how wives need security and leadership. It reminded me of a song on our list…”Lead Me” by Sanctus Real.

I can just see me, clinging to the side of the roller rink, tediously making my way. I fall down a lot anyway, so adding wheels is probably never a good idea.

There are also the fast skaters who threaten to bump me at any moment, so the rink can be a dangerous place. I would only feel secure on shaky ground if someone stronger was holding my hand and leading me.

Obviously, I’m not in a roller rink very often, but change the scene to a busy airport or a crowded line and I will immediately fall in behind my husband’s 6’2 shadow. I want him to lead the way.

It’s not that I can’t navigate the world, but if he’s there, then I know he has everything handled. I always feel less anxious when he’s leading the way.

Imagine how much more at ease we could live every day if we let the Lord lead us in our personal lives, our marriages and our whole family?

He certainly gives enough examples and verses to prove we can have security by His provision and protection. Speaking for myself, what comes next is having genuine faith and to actually trust in the hands that are holding onto mine.
